One more station on the downtown MRT line looks set to open by 2025.
The Hume Park MRT station will be situated near the Memories at Old Ford Factory.
Development of Rail Corridor could account for 2025 launch
The first phase of the Downtown Line was launched in 2015.
While Hume Park station was part of the second phase, the area’s low ridership growth and slower pace of development had not warranted for its launch earlier. The area does, however, comprise of existing private homes and condominiums.
The redevelopment of the area as a recreational node, namely the Bukit Timah Fire Station and the Rail Corridor, has convinced Parliament that the ridership to the area will be sufficient to support the opening of the Hume Park MRT station.
Hume Park MRT station will also benefit residents in the vicinity
The opening of this new Downtown Line MRT station also benefit residents living in the vicinity. The Bukit Batok Nature Reserve Park and Dairy Farm Nature Park are also nearby. Schools nearby include the German European School.
The Rail Corridor is a stretch that hopes to explore and unite communities through the history of rail transport in Singapore.
It will stretch between the Tanjong Pagar Railway station and the Woodlands Train Checkpoint. The central section will pass through the Bukit Timah Railway station. Through 3 main themes – Heritage & Culture, Biodiversity & Greenery, and Recreation, it hopes to bring a unique experience to visitors.
