Bishan to welcome new BTO flats by 2025

One of the most popular HDB estates, Bishan, may get a boost of 1,500 new Build-to-order (BTO) flats by as early as 2025, less than 6 years from now.

Popular housing estate of Bishan to get new BTO flats

Approximately 1,504 new BTO flats have been proposed for the Bishan HDB estate, spanning 6 blocks each of 22 to 39 storeys high.

The 44,424 sq ft site sits next to the Kallang River in Bishan Street 14 and seems like a prime spot within the estate. It is about 400-metres away from the Bishan MRT station or a 5-minute walk away. Also nearby at the Ministry of Education Language Centre’s Bishan campus and Kuo Chuan Presbyterian primary and secondary school. The site is designed for residential use under the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s (URA) masterplan.

Should the flats be launched, the response could be fervent as the last time any new flats were built in Bishan was in 2006, and that were only 176 studio apartments for the elderly. This time round, the flats are expected to range from 2-room to 4-room units.

New flats to boast roof-top gardens amidst many other amenities

Property experts are expecting the waterfront view of Kallang River to be particularly enticing to buyers, in particular units in the high floors. The rarity of BTO flats in Bishan may mean higher prices for these new units, though Flat prices may be higher than usual but for the same reason, they could also fetch higher prices in the resale market in future.

For applicants who are looking for units sooner than 2025, up to 4,500 BTO flats in Ang Mo Kio, Tampines and Tengah will be launched next month and another 3,000 more in Sembawang and Toa Payoh will be released in February 2020.
