6,753 HDB flats launched over 3 estates

The Housing Board (HDB) has launched 6,753 Build-to-order (BTO) and Sale of Balance Flats (SBF) yesterday over 3 HDB estates – Kallang/Whampoa, Tengah and Woodlands.

Most number of flats launched in Tengah

4 projects were launched over the 3 townships with the most number of units in Tengah. 2,183 units were launched for an offer in the upcoming “Forest Town” with 1,193 units in the new Garden District and 987 units in the neighbouring Plantation District.

722 units were launched in Woodlands while almost 600 units in Kallang/Whampoa. The latter is a mature estate near the city and is likely to attract a large number of applicants. As of 5 pm on Wednesday this week, all the unit-types for the flats in Kallang/Whampoa were oversubscribed.

There were 763 applicants for the 583 units. 2-room flexi units were almost thrice oversubscribed and 4-room units almost twice. Flats in this estate were oversubscribed by 9 times in February’s launch.

The Kallang/Whampoa’s proximity to the city centre, as well as the availability of amenities in a mature estate, may have accounted for its popularity. The units in this latest launch are situated beside Boon Keng MRT station and most of the applicants were second-timers.

28% of 3,268 balance flats completed and ready for occupation

A substantial percentage of the 3,268 flats sold under the Sale of Balance Flats scheme at this launch are already completed which could speed up the process for those looking for immediate application.

Most of the time, applicants for BTO and SBF flats have to wait for their flats to be constructed and it can take up to 3 to 4 years.

Flats which are ready for the occupation could be popular with those who would otherwise have to look for one in the resale market.

The next 2 upcoming launches will be in August and November. 3,300 flats in Punggol and Tampines are expected in August’s launch while 4,500 in Ang Mo Kio, Tampines and Tengah are expected to launch in November.
