Looking to take your wardrobe organizing up a notch? Here are five must-do tips on how to organize your wardrobe. You’re welcome.
Your closet is a place you spend so much time, right? Choosing outfits is a daily occurrence and if you lead a busy life it’s likely not a place you want to spend hours sifting through things in order to simply get dressed for the day.
Never fear – these wardrobe organizing tips will sort you out, stat.
How to organize your wardrobe
1. Get organized the night before
To save time in the morning and start the day off on a good note, decide on your outfit the night before.
It will help keep you organized and on track when you wake up and are dying for that first caffeine hit.
2. Arrange clothes into themes
It’s unlikely you’ll wear that polka dot playsuit to work, and vice versa that you’ll wear that ball gown on the weekend to brunch.
So, one of the best ways to organize your wardrobe is to arrange your clothes into work, casual, formal, winter and summer wear.
Try to buy vacuum-sealed bags from Kmart or the like and store away summer or winter wear on the offseason when they’re not being used.
3. Create a clothes organizer system
To save time each time you look in your closet, set up an organizing system so everything is visible and reachable without having to pull everything out to access things.
Our decluttering expert, Peter Walsh, recommends one of the best ways to organize a small closet with lots of clothes is to use the tabs from soft drink cans to double the amount of clothes you can hang in your closet.
“Simply twist the aluminum tabs off your favorite cans of soft drink,” he starts to explain. “Take your collection to your closet and slip one end over a clothes hanger. Slip the other end over another hanger as well and now you’ve literally doubled the amount of hanging you can have in your closet.”
4. Throw or donate clothes regularly
It’s been said time and time again, but at the very least when it comes to wardrobe organization, make sure you periodically throw out (or donate) anything stained, ripped, the wrong size, or never worn.
You’ll live a far more fulfilled, clutter-free life and will take pride in wearing those items you really love.
5. Rehang or pop in a washing basket
When you come home each night, immediately rehang what you wore that day or put the item into the washing basket.
If you let your clothes build up in your room over the week your wardrobe organization will certainly suffer and it’ll feel as if you can never quite get on top of it. And this doesn’t have to be the case!
