We can’t all afford to stay in them – but Australia’s luxe set of hotels have some serious style worth stealing.
Thanks to some career-making designer collaborations we’re seeing more boutique accommodation venues break away from the generic brand of luxury that many of the mainstream international hotel chains are selling.
Here are five stand-out hotel looks that you can try in your own home.
1. The glamorous Cleopatra bathroom

A touch of metal is all you need to amp up the glam factor in the bathroom.
There is plenty to like about the stunning interiors at Pretty Beach House in New South Wales’ Central Coast, but their stone bathroom with gold-finish fittings and the copper tub is our pick of the bunch. Sydneysider Michelle Leslie is behind the hotel’s interior design.
2. A beautiful collision of prints & colours

It’s a cardinal sin to clash prints, right? Wrong.
Aussie designer and queen of textiles, Anna Spiro, has the right idea when it comes to bringing different colours and patterns together to create a truly stunning interior look.
Her work redoing the interiors at Halcyon House, Cabarita Beach, is a testament to the power of beautiful prints and contrasting colours working together in perfect harmony.
3. A touch of nautical
It’s all luxury finishes with nautical touches at Hotel Palisade, eight rooms of boutique accommodation in the heart of Millers Point.
In their deluxe rooms, hand-painted marine murals by artist Neil Mallard are an eye-catching talking piece and a subtle reminder of the portside location.

4. A pop of colour
Sadly, many home decorators are still afraid of colour.
If you’re one of the guilty ones, a stay at Drift House in Apollo Bay – designed by award-winning architects Multiplicity – should set you straight.
Their self-contained ground floor apartment contains generous pops of Pantone ‘Greenery’ with a striking feature ceiling and coloured-glass kitchen splashback.

5. The intimate courtyard set-up

Empire Retreat and Spa is a stunning boutique hideaway in the heart of WA’s Margaret River region.
The stone and timber farmhouse packs the rustic charm with quaint decorative touches like American patchwork quilts and chandeliers in the bathroom.
The courtyard suite is our fave though – the intimate outdoor setting is just perfect for wine and cheese arvos with friends.
