"I will tell you how to become rich… Be fearful when others are greedy. Be greedy when others are fearful."
- Warren Buffett
This is the most common phrase used by property educators whose presence were most welcomed by visitors attending the Expo in search of knowledge and opportunities. The iProperty.com Expo Singapore ended successfully on 23 November 2008 with local and international visitors attending the property talks held in conjunction with the Expo. The event, which ran for three days, was held at the Suntec International Convention & Exhibition Centre Singapore.
Majority of visitors came to participate in the property talks seeking knowledge in preparation for better times and most were of the opinion that Singapore will snap out of the doom in 18 months. Visitors also came for opportunities to take advantage of the weakening foreign currencies.
Among some of the speakers at the event were: Jeff Foo, president of IEA; Ho Chin Soon, managing director of Ho Chin Soon Research Sdn Bhd; Goh Lee Lee, managing director of Gold Coast Property Expo; Kenny Yeap, managing partner of Tea, Kevin Kang & Co.; Khoo Li Lu, solicitor and barrister of the ACT and NSW Supreme Courts; and Dennis Ng, director of HousingLoanSG.com.
The talks began with Ho Chin Soon discussing commercial land in Malaysia, focusing on the next hot spots after the Golden Triangle. Ho also presented another talk discussing the Kuala Lumpur City 2020 Draft Plan in Malaysia.
Singapore’s Jeff Foo spoke about the 10 most important things to know before buying a property and engaging a property agent, while Goh Lee Lee presented a talk about investments in Australian property and what property buyers stand to gain.
Over the three-day period, there were also talks on legal matters such as guidelines for foreigners purchasing property in Malaysia, guidelines for migration to Australia, and strategies for property financing.
On the exhibition front, Malaysia presented a stunning series of exhibitors such as Mulpha International, Nusajaya, Amanah Raya, Bukit Ikhlas Development and Pernas Jaya all of whom view the Expo as an excellent platform for branding and positioning. Choices of over 10 developments spreading from Klang Valley to the Straits of Johor were exhibited at the iProperty.com Expo.
Australia-based Barton Group and Gold Coast Property Expo took advantage of the lower Australian dollar as an attraction for Singaporeans to make a perfect entry into the Australian property market. Barton sold at least 10 units of serviced apartments over the three-day Expo, making it one of the best performing exhibitors in these trying times.
Alternative investments such as cool mining and land banking complemented the Expo with a variety of investment products to choose from, which could give you better returns compared to bank interests. Tips on recession-proof investment were presented by KPWG International for its newly launched land based investment profile. A new form of investment such as cool mining providing a six year leasing plan with total investment return of 192% was a crowd puller too.
In conjunction with the iProperty.com Expo International Collection Singapore, an online expo website featuring exhibitors and their products was launched to commemorate the event. The website also offers exhibitors an excellent opportunity to tap into iProperty.com’s vast regional network to cross-market their products and services to a wider audience and extend their product exposure from three days to 365 days. The online expo can be accessed via the iProperty.com network available in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Philippines, Taiwan, India and iLuxuryasia.com.
