Expatriates getting higher housing allowance
The American Chamber of Commerce has revealed in a recent survey that about 20% more senior executives are dissatisfied over the higher costs of living in Singapore.

Some companies are forced to raise housing allowances for expatriates by as much as 20% to cope with the soaring rentals of prime apartments here.

Prime apartment rentals have reportedly gone up by 36% over the same time last year. In general, apartment rents all over Singapore have gone up by 10% this year.
 
There are also more expatriates who buy instead of rent apartments. Some of them are getting advance in housing allowance to pay for the purchase of the apartment. Date of report - 16 Aug 2007
