Up until know it was known – or rather, unknown – as a quiet, tranquil area next to the Mohamed Sultan zone, stubbornly resisting the incursion of bars or restaurants. Now, like once-serene neighbourhoods like Dempsey and Rochester Park, Martin Road will welcome a host of F&B concepts.

One of the new names taking a space on 38 Martin Road is actually already established in Rochester Park. The Australian restaurant Graze will open up its second branch and a provision shop (aptly named Provisions) to serve nearby residents. The chain, which serves Western dishes for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, was approached by developer SC Global to open up its second branch. Owner Yenn Wong explained to the Business Times that the atmosphere and concept of the restaurant would appeal to existing residents. “We looked at the site and saw it had great potential. There is a major saturation of F&B in Singapore, but this is a good place because it is almost suburban and is away from the hustle and bustle - we liked that it is tucked away with a neighbourhood feel.” She added that the excellent location, accessible from the city but not too close to it, would create a laid-back lifestyle vibe.
Sharing the rest of the 6,000 square feet of space is another establishment; Thai restaurant Kha. Already open, has been designed with a spare, contemporary feel. The newly-opened eatery will be a reincarnation of its former location at Horst Park. With dark wood furnishings, stone floors and Thai chefs, it’s looking to attract customers with a taste for authentic dishes from the Land of Smiles. Meanwhile, Provisions will occupy a small space next to Graze and serve up gourmet coffee, like the San Franciscan brand Graffeo, and deli fare such as pasta sauces and organic fruits.
