More Space in the Sea and On Land for Boat Owners
Feb 25, 2011

As proof of Singapore’s continuing bid to be one of the yachting hubs of Asia, the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club (RSYC) has started an expansion project aiming to increase its dry-berth space up to three times.

The $9 million scheme will be aimed at boats under 35 feet long. Currently, the RSYC berths are running at full capacity.
In a statement detailing the development, the Yacht Club anticipated high demand for the new berths. “Boat owners in Singapore […] appreciate the advantages of keeping smaller size boats of below 35 feet out of the water when not in use.” The club also has 127 wet berths.
Furthermore, the plan will include a large increase in the number of accommodation rooms for members. The four-storey wing, which currently holds 32 suites, will be renovated to a capacity of 60 rooms. Expansion of the berths will begin in the first quarter of this year and will be completed within six months. The accommodation is expected to be finished by mid-2012. There are also plans to upgrade the facilities of the existing Clubhouse.
The RSYC isn’t the only marina to expand due to the increasing number of being bought and docked in Singapore. Last year, the Marina at Keppel Bay completed a $3 million project which raised the number of its berths to 168. Coupled with the continuous development of houses in Sentosa – many of which lead to their own private docks – it is one of the several undertakings that will increase investment into the housing and boating industries on the island.
