Royal Selangor recently released its Spring/Summer 2010 collections with pewter designs that embrace both traditional Chinese artistry and contemporary designs. The designs include the Peony collection and the Auspicious plaques.
The Peony collection celebrates the fusion that is Southeast Asia’s Peranakan culture. The peony motif in Royal Selangor’s collection derives from examples found on Peranakan porcelain, and borrows from the graphic treatment of batik.
The auspicious plaques collection comprises four themed designs – ‘Eagle’, ‘Tiger’, ‘Goldfish and Peony’ as well as ‘Horses and Clouds’. In these works, ink brush renderings and relief sculpturing are reproduced in pewter.
