The Economic Strategies Committee (ESC) is recommending that Tanjong Pagar be transformed into a waterfront city that will substantially expand the current business district. The new city will comprise office blocks, hotels, waterfront housing and a host of lifestyle and tourist attractions.

However, the transformation will not be anytime soon as the current lease with PSA Corporation, the port operator expires only in year 2027.

Senior Minister of State for National Development Grace Fu said that the area is very attractive as it is just at the fringe of the city. Its area size is also comparable to Marina Bay and can be developed for future growth.
