At Housing Development Board’s (HDB) 50th anniversary celebrations, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that the government will continue to keep new HDB flats affordable, addressing the recent concerns over escalating HDB resale prices.
Noting that HDB will build its one millionth flat this year, he added that HDB will continue to provide good public housing for Singaporeans. He observed that a HDB flat is no longer just a shelter but has also become a key investment asset. Yet, he said that while the government will control the prices of new HDB flats, the prices of HDB resale flats are of a different matter. Explaining that resale prices are dictated by market demands, he maintained that resale prices will fluctuate from year to year.
