HDB flat owners must register sub-letting of rooms
New requirement to eradicate loan-sharking activities
Jan 13, 2010 - iProperty.com

Starting from 1 February 2010, Housing Development Board (HDB) flat owners who sub-let rooms in their HDB apartments must register with HDB within seven days of sub-letting. In addition, they will have to inform HDB when the sub-letting is renewed or terminated, and when there are changes to their sub-tenants’ particulars.

This new rule applies to all new and existing cases of room sublets. For existing cases where the sub-letting commenced before 1 February 2010, there will be a 6-month grace period (starting from 1 February 2010) given to owners to register their sub-letting. New cases will need to follow the 7-day requirement.

Owners who fail to comply with this rule will face a penalty of up to $3,000. If an owner repeatedly flouts this rule, HDB may compulsorily acquire the owner’s flat.

Owners can either register their sub-letting online or at the branch office. At the branch office, HDB staff will help to guide owners on the registration process if needed. For more information, call the HDB Branch Office Service Line at 1800-2255432.
